Social Issues: Civil Rights and Racial Discrimination
Racism is a social problem based on arbitrary discrimination
against racialized people (black, Asian, indigenous, Latinos, etc). It is a
problem that persists in daily life until slavery has been abolished or is
socially frowned upon.
Racist expressions such as "working as a Chinese"
or condescendingly treating black people are expressions of internalized
racism. This can also be observed with gender with the hypersexualization of
the Afro-descendant community or in the normalization of pedophilia in the
Asian population.
This situation has worsened in the last month with the
murder of George Floyd in the USA, but we must look at ourselves in our daily
lives to eradicate the racism that we carry as a mestizo population. Because
being Latino does not leave us exempt from being racist with other racial
oppressions like the indigenous one. We can even see it in our beauty
standards, which are rather far from our reality in Latin America, being these
purely European.
This is why we have to be self-critical in the first
instance to stop reproducing mechanisms of dominance in other bodies, and in
our own.

Hi! I very much agree with your thoughts! I think we should really reflect on how we act with others and on our own culture and country, because chile is not exempt from racism and discrimination towards others and towards our own (indigenous) culture, as they say: we must first start changing at home to make general changes. I hope you are well, greetings<3

Chile is not exempt from racism, the mere fact that we consider ourselves to be the "English of Latin America" is proof of this, and I consider it shameful to see how the immigrant neighbours are treated in comparison with the European or Anglo immigrants who arrive in the country, the former are constantly despised and humiliated, while the latter are bowed down and idolised, I think it is shameful!
